Em 2018 a praça que fica localizada em frente ao Cemitério Municipal da Saudade recebeu em solenidade o nome de “Irmã Maria Chaves”, fazendo homenagem a uma importante figura na história de Assis. A partir dali foi discutido um projeto de revitalização do espaço que já começou a ser executada pela Secretaria Municipal de Obras e está quase pronta.
A reconstrução da praça era um antigo anseio da população que vê naquele espaço um ponto de encontro e descanso principalmente pela sua localização em frente ao Cemitério, que também teve sua fachada reformada recentemente pela atual administração.
Na praça foi aumentada a área de guias e sarjetas para o espaço da calçada ficar melhor e o corte de algumas árvores que apresentavam risco de queda. A finalização será com a colocação de bancos e iluminação.
